Learning to build a homemade wind turbine became crucial to our family when we initially began looking to buy a wind generator to run our off gird home. The cost of 1000w models needed to run our clean energy system cost nearly $4000 including the tower. We had to even assemble it ourselves. We figured there must be an easier way.

Our solar panel array just was not sufficiently large to run our home and we figured a giant wind turbine would add to our power supply enough to meet the increased demand of three children growing up in a mainly ordinary home.

We made a decision to look at the choice of building our own, as we claimed when we saw the cost of other ones. The issue was that no straightforward plans existed to just do that. All the wind generator plans we encountered called for complicated layout and even more welding than we cared to pursue. What we required was a straightforward set of plans.

None existed so we made a decision to make our own.

Our homemade wind turbine project took us over ten years to finish. Attempting to find a source of cheap parts that we could put together with relatively easy tools was extremely troublesome. Everyone appears to always need to complicate things in order to keep their share of an exceedingly large business sector. The renewable energy field has grown significantly during the last couple of years and most makers simply did not want anyone building their own wind turbine. I guess we can understand that.

But, not everybody can afford $4000 for the system we needed. We know we were unable to. So we went to work to design a system that would be used by anyone. We even learned ways to consistently supply a wind turbine blade design that met the simple tool- straightforward to learn criteria.
