The Basics Of Wind Energy
We've been using wind energy in this world for hundreds of years. You've seen windmills in images from Holland, along farmlands in the United States, and various other parts of the world. They are used to help pump water, grind grain, and help the economy continue to grow. Unfortunately, it took a huge energy crisis for us to start taking notice of all the benefits.
The way they work is these wind turbines are attached to a tower. They have to be at least a hundred feet high in order to get the best benefits and catch the bigger gusts of wind. If there isn't enough wind being produced, it could cause a lot of problems for several companies, self employed farmers, and even hurt the economy. Everything is attached to everything else, which is why it's important to figure out the best routes for wind energy.
Turbines with their blades that are similar to propellers catch the energy from the wind. There are normally about 2 to 3 blades attached to a shaft which in turns forms what is a called a rotor. The blades turning in the wind create lift and drag. Drag happens when the wind hits the front of the blade. Lift happens as a wind pocket occurs on the backside of the blade. By combing the two forces it makes the rotor turn similar to an airplane propeller. And the shaft is turning a generator and this is what creates electricity.
While most of the versions you see are large, they can also be used in smaller scales. Whether it's just to pump water, or lower power bills, all the farmers, ranchers, and homeowners out there take advantage of them. If not, they should.
Granted, places like manufactured farms are going to need larger applications. When you come across issues such as this, they can be combined with solar power applications. Wind plants use this setup along with utility grid power systems to save money. Even today, power companies are purchasing excess energy from customers who are using wind energy. So both parties end up saving more money.
As the world continues to turn, the fossil fuels are being depleted at faster rates. It's even more reason why you need to think about an alternative power source like wind energy. Outside of solar energy, this is the 2nd best option out there today. Granted, it won't be for everyone, but if you're interested in wind energy then you need to take the appropriate steps.
Keep in mind this is a renewable resource, and actually helps the environment. Since there is a huge issue with energy today, we need as many people as possible to use this type of energy. While it will be a monumental task, it all starts with one person. When the word spreads, then the domino effect begins.
